The Dongpo Grand Theater is located in the Yintai in77 commercial block on the lakeside of Hangzhou. It was founded in the late 1980s and has always been an important carrier and symbol of the cultural and tourism connotation of West Lake in Hangzhou. This theater has been accompanied by the rapid development of the city in the past 30 years, leaving a mark of the times. While showcasing the beauty of antiquity, it is also limited in its functionality and artistic expression due to outdated facilities and single functions.

Since 2007, Intime Group has been working with the local government to cultivate the Hubin commercial district for more than ten years, creating the Hubin Intime in77. At the end of 2018, it began to work with multiple institutions to upgrade and transform the Dongpo Grand Theater as a whole.

After renovation and upgrading, Dongpo Grand Theater has 1048 audience seats, upgraded from a single function tourism performance theater to a professional multi-functional theater.

2019 In October of the same year, Dongpo Grand Theater, an important cultural landmark in Hangzhou, officially reopened. The light dance drama "White Snake" meticulously crafted by renowned artist Lin Zhaohua also premiered here. The drama presents a new story and visual experience that transcends the three realms of humans, demons, and Buddha through the creation of a virtual fairyland using modern technology.

"Currently, too many theaters are separated from the theater, and we try to make the audience feel the curtain rising as soon as they step into the theater gate. ”It is understood that this renovation uses subtraction to abandon useless decorations, preserve the imprints of different eras, and release the disappeared space. Everything is for performance service, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in the play.

Now let's take a look at the architectural design style of Dongpo Grand Theater.

Unlike the addition of construction, the renovation design of Dongpo Theater adopts a subtraction approach, demolishing the architectural decorations of different periods in the theater, attempting to reshape the space with minimal intervention.

In the early stages of theater construction, the painting decoration of the walls and the elements of the staircase railing in the lounge were used. The vertical texture of the walls, cement fiber boards, and strong staircase railings paid tribute to the memory traces of history.
